Request for good thoughts... (Update)

The OL went into the hospital last night for a full knee replacement on her right knee. She has come through surgery ok and is recooperating. She’ll be facing several days of intensive PT over the next three days. I know she’d appreciate any good thoughts sent her way. Sorry if this isnt the place for something like this, havent slept much in the last 48 hours but my best girl is alright at least and that’s what counts.

Peace.

Coyote

Of course it’s the place for something like this. Glad she came through the surgery okay. They’ve made wonderful advances in this type of replacement surgery over the years. The PT will be a struggle at first, but will be worth it in the end. Best wishes to your wife for a speedy and successful rehab.

This could be your golden opportunity to get her involved in the hobby. Since she won’t be up and around as much for a while, maybe you ought to consider getting her a building kit to work on to wile away some spare time and keep her occupied. [:D]

Uh, great signature gif of the Super Chief, but it does tend to stretch out the page a bit…

Regards

Ed

Thanks for the good thoughts Ed, yes they have made incredible strides with this type of thing, in fact, they say this knee will last her 20 to 30 years. Between you me and the wall we were stepping up our knowledge of the hobby just for her down none PT time, and I hope it will be a good thing to help keep her busy and feel good.
Bad news is I just got word an hour ago that she may need a further surgery, will know Tuesday [:(]

Thanks for the compliment on the Gif, you are correct however it is far too wide trying to fix it but my brain isnt working correctly right now.

I’ll let the Ol know you send your well wishes.

Peace

Coyote

Best wishes and prayers for the OL, and you.

Ed does have a point, give her some figures to paint or materials to build some trees [:)]

Hoping for a speedy recovery,
Karl

Best wishes and prayers for a speedy recovery for your wife…

Hey, Coyote, my fervent hopes are that your gal will come through this just fine, even if she needs another go at it. I can sympathize with how it all feels, especially when your’re dead on your feet, have no energy or enthusiasm, and the whole world seems to be going about their business as if they hadn’t a care in the world.

Hang in there.

hang in there coyotem let her know she will be in our thoughts and prayers. get your self some rest when you can as your gonna need it as well while she is going through her pt, she is going to really need your support. medic

Coyote, My thoughts and prayers are with you and the Mrs. May she have a speedy recovery and be out running marathons soon (or at least helping with the layout…)! I know recovery from a knee replacement can be an uncomfortable experience (I’ve had several freinds in the situation) but the results are usually great with better mobility and no more pain. Good luck!

Coyote, your bride and you will be in my prayers this day, trust in the lord he will see you
through.
“The Harven”

Here’s good wishes for a speedy recovery for your wife.

Update on the OL:

She is resting comfortably but in pain, the PT says that the Ol is her star pupil [:D] and she walked -90- feet today, the first day after her surgery!

When she can walk 100 feet and bend her knee 90 degrees my doll gets to come home! So looks like she may get out Tuesday after all!

A lonely old cat without his Chick, but a hopefull one:

Coyote

Does she know you call her a OL.

Hang in there. This too will pass. Continue to be nice to her and distract her when you can. Know lots of people who got through this and they didn’t like it either.

It’s quite a struggle, I know.

My best thoughts and wishes are with you and her.

How long ago did you get the pic of the boxcar w/“Super Chief”?

My father-in-law had a hip replacement at 85. He did it so he could get back on the tennis courts, which he did successfully. His motto afterward was “No Pain, No Cane.” My thoughts go out to the guy who is going to have trouble keeping up with his Bionic Wife.

My wife had her ACL done a few years back, and now she’s a ski instructor. I had a rotator cuff repaired 10 years ago, and at 58 I’m still playing hockey and skiing black diamonds. Tell her to do the PT, and maintain a positive, can-do attitude. This repair-and-replacement business has made great strides lately. Unfortunately, hospital food is still the pits, so be sure to take her out to a nice restaurant afterwards, OK?

It isnt one I took myself unfortunately, I was lucky enough to find it while searching out info on the SC a couple of days ago.

I found it at http://www.sightandsound.com/route66/trains.html which has some wonderful pics.

Peace.

I defantely will, she’s already put in an order for a Cheeseburger LOL So that tells me she’s hating the Hospital food.
It looks good though, she had almost no movement in the knee and couldnt even bend it to 90 degrees do to degenerative damage, this will also straighten her tibia which was also degeneratively damaged. This should be a new lease on life, although i’d rather buy than lease myself. [:)]

Thank you for the kind words and info.

Peace.

P.S. chuckles I have been teasing her with the Bionic Woman line for about 6 months now, I am blessed to have a woman that will put up with someone like me…
I said to her before they took her to Pre-Op “gentlemen we -can- rebuild her”.[;)]

you know how the OL yaps on about cutting the grass , talking out the trash , etc etc… ? well now it’s your turn to get on her case about the PT . first thing you should know is you always have to do at least twice as much PT as they tell you to . their standards for ‘full recovery’ are lower than yours should be , but it takes a lot of work and a lot of pain to really get back to ‘normal’ . sounds like she’s on the right track , but you have to make sure she stays on it

Well wishes for the OL and Get Well soon from the Pacific NW, coyote!! I know how she feels about the food in the hospital, tho. I went in for two & 1/2 days in March to get my fused hip worked on and I could not have anything to eat or drink from midnight until after my surgery. I was supposed to wait at home until they called me ( with nothing to eat ) then come in and get worked on. So,
here I am at 7 am in the morning…starving!! But I can’t have water, can’t have breakfast, can’t have coffee. The hospital finally calls at 10 am and tells me to come in at 12:30 pm, but NO WATER and NO FOOD!!
I couldn’t believe it!
Arrived at the hosiptal at 12:15, was processed in and SAT/LAID in the prep room wearing nothing but the backless gown for 1.5 hours. Apparently there was an emergency case…blah, blah, blah…Finally the nurse comes in at 3pm and tells me I’m scheduled for 5 pm and to hang in there. I politely advised the nurse that I was dying of thirst and she allowed me to “swish” some water in my mouth, but I had to spit it out. Can you believe this??
Then, at about 3:45 pm, the doctor’s “charge nurse” came in advised me and the family that they would be putting me ahead of two other surgerys. They never did explain why. At this point I would have kissed some boote’ to get this over with. They wheeled me into surgery at 4:10; the process was over by 5:00 pm and was up in my room by 5:20…STARVING.
The floor nurse came in to check on me and asked if I needed anything. I told her DINNER would be great. She wasn’t sure if I could get dinner, as the dinner orders were already in process for the floor. I looked over to my wife and told her to make a run for pizza and beers. The nurse blanched and scurried out of the room. I had a dinner within 10 minutes. Again…not the best food, but I was so-o-o-o hungry, I asked if I could have something else. Turns out they had an extra dinner, and I ate all of that one as well.
I was past caring what it tasted l
