Railroader magazine: 75-year collection on DVD-ROM (Pre-Order)

Note the link is to the MR DVD collection which has not even been released yet. I gues I have to get my crystal ball out for this one.

(This just points out the perils ouf canned responses being sent out)

Hmmm

Sounds like a spam email. It looks pretty “generic” to me, meaning it doesn’t specify ANY particular product they wish reviewed. And how would they know that you had purchased anything at all?

You can contact Kalmbach directly to ask if they sent out such things.

Also, as you point out it links to the upcoming DVD collection, NOT the magazine and the section editor for reviews.

While others may not have gotten one of these yet, they may be forth coming like the “love letter” from one spam email or the spam from “the Ambassador” like I got through the site here.

It’s unfortunate that this site gets “hacked” in such manners.

Review: Railroader magazine: 75-year collection on DVD-ROM

"I was quite disappointed to find this DVD contained only recycled and rehashed material, there was no new subject matter at all. Once again Kalmbach is repackaging old articles and features to resell in a different format.

I’m afraid I have to rate this MR DVD a FAIL!!!."

Over the weekend,I’ve had to get my credit card “blocked” because it seems that some dude in Gibraltar has used it to do rather heavy purchases.I have no idea how he did it as my card is still in my wallet in Quebec City and I’ve never set foot in Gibraltar, but still I can understand the purpose…$$$

What I wonder in this case though,is what could be the interest for someone to hack a magazine this way?Trying to prove to himself that he’s smarter ?Simply cause problems to others?Strange world we live in…

It seems to me like nothing more than a computer program that is set to automatically generate a message requesting a review of a product that has been purchased, even if that product has not yet been shipped.

Once your name gets into the computer, the clock starts ticking on a date to send out the request.

I received the same email after purchasing the Classic Trains DVD even though it didn’t actually ship to me until 4 weeks after I received the request. Somebody needs to fix this at Kalmbach

Have you purchased something from Kalmbach?

It sounds like a standard customer satisfaction survey to me. I get them frequently from businesses that I patronize. They are usually administered by a third party that specializes in them.

Unless you have never purchased anything from Kalmbach I wouldn’t be concerned.

You are kidding, right? What did you expect to find in a 75 year magazine collection DVD?

Were it me, I’d expect copius amounts of sarcasm packaged with at least one DVD, possibly two.

The individual in question is a petty thief, that’s all.

This has happened to me several times, and the card has been in my physical possession each time. Moreover, I’m very careful about what I do with my credit card numbers, and I never respond to requests for passwords, etc.

Unfortunately, credit card numbers can be stolen from businesses you patronize (or banks). They can also be “guessed” through high-tech “cracking” programs. The only truly foolproof way to avoid this is to close all your credit card and debit card accounts and go back to a cash-only basis. And the inconvenience of doing that would far outweigh the inconvenience of dealing with a stolen CC number.

Just remember, your liability is limited by law to the first $50, provided you report the incident “promptly” (usually defined as 30 days after your statement close date).

I believe the Kalmbach Store is a Yahoo merchant site and this email was actually generated by Yahoo.

You believe?
