Request Update on Meridian Corridor

Awhile back there was an incident at the KCS Yazoo City, MS bridge, that might have affected the structural integrity of the bridge. I have not seen anything on the final assessment of the situation. Anyone out there know the latest on this?

I believe you are referring to the incident where a barge hit one of the piers of the Mississippi River bridge at Vicksburg not Yazoo City. The line was out of service for at most a day until a complete water level inspection could be made to determine if there was any structural damage. Everything checked out OK and the KCS resumed service over the bridge once the inspection was completed. Incidentally the bridge is owned by Warren County, MS and was built in 1930 as a joint highway and rail toll bridge. US 80 crossed the river on this bridge but it’s been closed to highway traffic since the new I-20 bridge was opened a short distance upstream. Each of the two traffic lanes were only 10 ft. wide and it was a real nail biter to be travelling east across it with a train on your right and west bound semi-trucks passing you on the left - even scarier if it was pouring down rain.

Thanks for the update and correction on the location. Glad all is well.
