What map site gives the best satellite shots?

Each have their strengths. Which location are you looking for? Try Google and MSN Live on that location.

Sometimes Google is better, other times MSN is better…

You could try Terra Server also.

Thank you. Thats alot better then yahoo or google maps, lots clearer.

Try http://maps.live.com too - for quite a few locations they also have what they call “birds eye view” (pictures taken from airplanes, showing buildings and tracks from an angle instead straight overhead). Can often be rotated to view the location from four sides.

Maps Live is a Microsoft product, and at least in my area, has much more up-to-date aerial photos than TerraServer or Google Maps. The Google Maps Street View photos are the most up-to-date here that I’ve found.

Mapquest is another one that offers both satellite imagery or road map options.

Steinjr, thanks for the link to http://maps.live.com/ the aerail view of NS’s Brosnan Yard in Macon, Georgia is OUTSTANDING!. I have lived in the area for over 40 years and never knew that NS had a hump yard in Macon Georgia. Now I have to talk with the local NS office and see if I can get a tour.

Glad it was of help. Cool yard you mentioned - the one on the east side of town, with the hump tower at the south end of the yard, right by the engine service area ?

Another tip on using maps.yahoo.com for modelling purposes:

there is a link named “share” above the picture area when you look at maps.live.com - allows you to get a link directly to some picture you would like to see again to your clipboard, so you can paste it somewhere for later reference.

Like this one showing a bird’s eye veiew your yard tower and engine service area viewed from the east:

Here is another bird’s eye view: a
