Research Help

I am looking for some information on a “Build this layout series” that was published in Model Railroader some time between 1989 to 1994(?). I believe it was a year long series. The layout was shaped, some what, like the letter “C”. It was not a 4x8 layout.

It was desinged for two Cabs and had tips on how to make it easy to tare down and transport. Again I belive it used masonite under the joining sections of the layout.

It was also released in softcoverd book forum. I think I have it hiden away in my basement, someplace. I can serach further if anyone can remember the year or title of the articles. I can take the search from from there.

I have tried searching the trains .com magazine index with no success.

Any inforamtion or ideas where to search would be appreciated.

Thank you.

You’re probably thinking of Dave Frary’s Building the Pennsy Middle Divsion in HO series; January to September 1993. The series is still avalable in book form:

Or it might be the N scale Burlington Northern series from February to September 1990. Althought, the layout was oval shaped. This series was also released as a book, but I belive it is out of print.

Was this an O, HO or N scale layout? M.R. has done many layout projects. Have you tried searching Project Layouts found under Layout Construction?

Here’s a link to find the books Nick mentioned.
Building the Burlington Northern Railroad in N Scale. There are three available on Amazon.com but one seller is asking a whopping $198.99!!! While the others are asking $18.95 and $49.40.

Trainworld has The Pennsy Middle Division in HO Scale for $9.99 plus $8 shipping. Look for product # 12170 under Model Railroading Books (All Scales)
