Researching...

Hey I have a question… I’d like to do some research on local train lines in the Southern/South Eastern part of Michigan… My question is I don’t know what terms to use when doing the research online… I did come up with one site based on Michigan Railroads… Which you can see here: http://www.michiganrailroads.com the site is somewhat helpful but I’m looking for more resources as well…

Thanks,

Josh

Josh,

One question to help narrow your search is; Are you looking at historical RR’s or only what is currently used? Passenger or freight?

I know a little about freight as I model the Detroit and Mackinac. Currently, we see at lot of GT, CN, Conrail and NS. In the past, we were heavy in Auto and Steel… Here are some “fallen flags” DT&I, D&TSL, DetroitTerminal RR and going further back, it was Chemicals and Logging like, Wyandotte Southern RR, Wyandotte Terminal RR, Pere Marquette and there was an NYC presence and even some PRR. There was the Toledo and Southern MI Shoreline RR and of course, The Michigan Central RR… T&SB comes to mind. And many others…

Do a google search on some of these to get started.

Thanks Joey… I’m mainly looking for modern info with in the last 20-30 years…
