No, it doesn’t matter where the resistor goes, as long as it is in series with the LED. It can go either on the + or - side of the LED, too. Resistors are not directional, so they can be flipped end-for-end in a circuit. LEDs do have a positive and negative side, though, so you need to make sure that’s right or you will have one of those “Darkness Emitting Diodes,” or DEDs. [:-^]

I had a lot of those at one time. Bought one of those ‘grab bags’ with like 50 random LEDs for $1. Got a battery and resistor - at least half were actually DEDs. Or someone had gotten cute and colored the packages of infrared LEDs. [:D]
