Respect for names

Out of respect for people with long names and some with short ones, does anyone object to someone shortening it when makeing replies? I don’t mind mine being shortened but others might. Since mine is Eriediamond, Someone might reply with: Erie, e-diamond, or Erie D. I’ve caught my self doing it to others, but do’nt want offend them by doing that. Also with some of the initials used on some of the screen names makes it difficult (for me anyway) to remember them when addressing them in a reply. Thanks, Ken

Ken, Erie, e-diamond, Erie D,

IMHO if they object then they need to shorten their screen name. [:D]

eriediamond, Ken

I wish you all the best and a quick recovery from your hospitalisation !
i don’t know if this are the right english words, but get well soon.

LUPO

Sorry Eriediamond, I never really thought about it. Come to think about it the ones who’s names I have shortened are the ones who’s threads I enjoy (dig those Threads man) and have communicated back and forth with. Hopefully I havn’t offended.

With that said

Call me Fergie[8D]

Just don’t call me late for supper!

Dear “late for supper”,

Oops, Eng22 I hope that didn’t offend you. [:D]

Call me Brakie or Larry-Both are the names I go by…Brakie is my real nick name.

I can be shortened to Light 'cos I ain’t heavy, ask my brother.

Dear E-diamond,
Man, people call me bigboy, 4884, UP, 4000, FEF3, 4024, THE BIG YELLOW MONSTER (lol), train freak/nerd, and of course, Jonathon. Well, actually, I made most of them up, but I think they’re funny. I’ll go by any (preferably Jonathon) [;)]

OK Y’all, just was curious as some do take offense to nick names or shortening of their names. Just didn’t want to offend anyone, and Lupo-- thanks.

Hey Ken, you can call me Barbie if you like, just as long as you’re nice’n’polite… [;)][:-^]
And we can all see that you are, cause you started this thread.
Get well real soon!
Best regards from the other side of the pond,
Oliver

If the screen name is too long, my value judgment here, and the post isn’t signed with a first name I usually use the first three initials. Not really a fan of self-expressive screen names.

Randy

I’ve been Doing this alot also, but mostly because I’m too lazy to type out a long name.

I’ve had my handle on other forums before, and I always ended up being reffered to as “A-guy”, which I do not mind in the least. Considering how so many people are prone to becoming offended at what they read (or misread) in a forum post, I just don’t worry about things like that; you will never satisfy 100%. Type, and say, whatever it is that you want to say, abbreviate what you feel like abbreviating. The whining of others contributes nothing to the discourse.

You can just call me MR. Jones. [:-,]

Or whatever, I don’t really care. As long as I know you’re refering to me.

Any time people feel comfortable enough with the others here to abbreviate a name on an informal site like this adds to the friendly atmosphere. I think it’s kind of cool. … 'Bolt…I mean Dan.

Thanks again all. As was stated on another thread, communicating here can be a little touchy as sometimes what one types in comes out the other end with the same letters and words but with different meaning for some. Regards, Ken

here are some of my nicknames: train boy, train freak, ATGTA ( Alexander the great train addict) Alex, Bogs ( part of my last name ) and hey you.
