Great to see the PLA focusing on important and valuable locomotives, be they steam or diesel. An amazing organization!

This is an amazing story! Looking forward to seeing everything put back together!

KUDOS TO the PLA!! Nice work!

Those were quite some locos to watch when they went up Beaumont Pass. Glad to see that memories can come to life again.

Now, that’s some good news.

Yay good news!

My recollections of seeing these amazing locomotives pulling San Joaquin will never leave me thought I witnessed this only once. It sure will be cool to see this amazing engine once again move under it’s own power with a few cars in tow in Niles Canyon. For those who attend Winterail this coming March ought to pay a visit to this great museum in Sunol the day after.

Which engines does it have ? Maybach, Mercedes?
Hopefully no silencer

Will the locomotive be restored to operational status?

It’s great that a different looking locomotive may be on the rails again. Even an ugly duckling can become a beautiful swan!

Any locomotive restoration is a huge undertaking, but if they pull this off, wow, that’s damn impressive.

To answer your question, Frank; The K-Ms used Maybach prime movers with Voith transmissions. Yes, I’m curious what the exaust note sounds like.
