Restored Rock Island Caboose goes on display in Tinley Park, IL

There is a good story in the 9/4/09 Chicago Tribune this morning. A 1930s (may be different as reporters don’t know squat!) Rock Island caboose was retired by Metra and given to the city for display. An Eagle scout took on restoring it for his project and with help from the Rock historical society and the Blackhawk NRHA chapter obtained enough information to restore it. He then obtained donations and got a retired painter to paint it. In addition he obtained the materials and had the interior fully restored. Guess I’ll have to wander over that way and take a look.

Congratulations to the Eagle scout. Always did think that achievement was a lofty and very meaningful goal. It generally shows the recipient is a rather fine individual.

Wow! That really gives me hope to become an Eagle Scout. I’m in BSA you know. I really like that. I will have to think of doing something like that for service hours!
