Restriping a postwar GG1

Does anyone know of a way of restriping a postwar GG1. Ive got one that almost most of the stripes are gone. Any info would help, thanks.

John

I have one with most of the stripes gone myself. Love the GG1.

Munster - short of masking it yourself (and hopefully you are really good at repainting locos) or sending it to one of the professional restorers, there is not much you can do. Many will argue that you should leave it as original as possible. I think whatever makes the train desireable to you is what is important.

There were some decals offered many years ago, but everything I ever read about them was that they were not acceptable. I have not seen these in a long time.

I have seen the excellent work of Len Carparelli of L&L Screen Printing (CTT ads show him at 201-438-1266) at York TCA meets and a friend of mine’s 1954 SF F3 A Unit that Mr. Carparelli’s firm did. I have never personally inquired as to cost of having a toy train repainted.

Good luck!

Roy

Roy-

Thanks for the info. Im not sure of myself in trying to restripe the GG1, so I probably would send it out to some type of screen printing company like the one you suggested. If I did it myself, there would be stripes everywhere[:p][:p][:p].

As a modeler for many years I would advise you to look into the Micro-Scale decal system. If you follow the directions exactly you will get perfect stripes with no,yes no decal film showing.People ask me constantly how I could paint these fine details. Most do not believe they’re not painted but decals. Its not easy or fast but can be perfect with a little care.

Yes it is true about Microscale decals. They are great I re-painted a postwar F-3 shell and used their decals and it came out great.
