As some of you know, these past two years have been spent rebuilding most of my layout except for the benchwork and one section of scenery. This is because my layout was so broken that tearing it down to the foam and starting over (in stages) was probably easier than fixing everything. And in the process, I got to build prototypical towns from photos rather than freelancing the whole shebang!
I won’t post the whole write-up here because it has a lot of photos that I’d rather not break anybody’s dial-up with (this weeks WPF is bad enough!), so please follow this link to my website.
White River Southern Railroad - Capitol Improvement Project 2009
Please don’t make any comments about how I should have built it the right way the first time…two years, a whole lot of money, and plenty of work later, I’ve learned my lesson well!
In a nutshell, I took a broken railroad where an unfinished room and hideously dirty track wouldn’t let trains run more than a foot without stalling and trains would derail at every other switch and curve, and transformed it into a smoothly operating railroad running through prototype towns with a strong operating plan and prototypical roster. I’ve held two operating sessions so far and my next one is planned for January 23.
I’d like to thank all of you guys here for helping me decide to fix what was broken rather than starting over, and for helping along the way when I came upon a tough situation or needed help to keep going.
I’m looking forward to a full year of operating sessions!
