Return of the Vista Dome Car?

The Class 1’s, at predominately their own expense have for the past decade or more have been working on their physical plants to be able to handle 20’2" Double Stacked containers and Auto racks of the same height.

Amtrak runs most of their trains on these routes, as such they are nowhere near the clearance limits on these routes.

I have no idea of what the clearances are on Amtrak owned and operated trackage, beyond the fact that the tunnel South out of Washington Union Station will not clear the current AC locomotives that the Class 1’s are using.

As I remember reading… the long ago former restriction they could not run Budd Full view, Vista Domes (the latter CZ type) on some routes without having a smaller clearence Vista Dome…in fact, I think it was the C&O or B&O that had that restriction. They had those retarded looking sloped dome cars. Not sure if that restriction is still in place. However that is what I was referring to.
