Return of the Yard problem

Ok I have the problem with my yard again I have a semi scale 1/2" equals a 1’ graph here with the actual shape that the yard will be and the correct sizes with obsitacals any ideas would be great. The layout is HO scale…

BASIC PROBLEM:

7 ft. is too far to reach across to rerail rars. Trim to 3’,

BASIC YARD design: Single ended Ladder: Recommended #4’s.with Caboose ground throws. (STEAM will want #6 turnouts).

STORAGE tracks will be 12’ + long each. Power-routing turnouts preferred.

WHERE’S THE (“Yard”) PROBLEM?

Maybe the “yard” problem is that even 3 feet (1 yard) is too far to reach. Max it out at 30 inches and life will be much better.

What does the layout look like outside the yard? Can you put in a double-ladder? Do you need this much space for a yard, or would you have more fun with a few switchable industries instead?

Actually this is a second layer to a layout. I was thinking if possible to put the yard closer to the front maybe diagnally it would work and just put row houses or something in the back. The top layer mimics the first layer except in some areas heres the rest of the layout. For now the secnd layer isnt even really worked out that well and nothing is set instone let alone paper.

Oh I wouldnt have to reach 7 feet for a car I am not that dumb to make it all yard.
