Revell, Ahm, Con Cor, passenger station

Is there someone out there who would be willing to post a picture of the old Revell passenger station? I used to have that model years ago, and I would like to recreate it in a 3d virtual model, but I cannot remember what it looks like exactly, only a very general idea. I’ve searched the net for box art, photos, etc all to no avail. There are pictures of nearly everything else made by Revell, but not that classic old station. Any help would be appreciated!

Is this the “Rico” Colorado Station with the funny octogon upper dormer?

Diecast,

Is this the station pictured in this auction?

PLASTICVILLE REVELL HO TRAIN STATION SET OF 3 + MORE!

If so, I bought mine as an Atlas kit in the 70’s. I’m sure it’s still knocking around out there under someone’s name.

The one I was thinking of (Rico Colorado) is the in the picture on the top left.

Yes it is the one with the gray roof, octogon dormer, and the station agent dragging a mailbag on the platform. Funny, you found it in an auction on ebay, I spent some of Saturday evening and part of early Sunday AM trolling ebay for the same thing, never found it. If it is Rico, CO, that would be helpful information as well, since I can look for prototype pics as well. I seem to think I may have heard it called that, but it was back quite a few years, I bought mine I think at the original Hobby Town store here in Lincoln, in the late sixties, before Hobby Town became a franchise operation. I apreciate the replies by the way. Just the one picture will help quite a bit, I sure would like to find the original box art, or a side shot however, but just the little bit shown in the pic helps…[:)]

What you’re looking for is the Revell station like you said originally, I think Concor picked up their line for a while, at least the bakery and enginehouse anyhow. AHM’s station was a knockoff of the Revell, with two towers instead of one, Atlas makes a simular station, only smaller with a different roof. The Rico station is an AHM/ihc product with a different tower and freight room added to building. The original Revell has a single tower in the center, arched windows on the side, covered wooden platform with some frieght and baggage cast right in. It is the one in the back of the E-Bay picture. mike h.

My Atlas station is identical to the Revell you’re talking about, and I still have it in storage at my parent’s place. Last time I saw it everything was intact, just a little dusty.

Distant and unreliable memory is that the various stations from Revell, AHM and Atlas are closest to Chicago & North Western prototypes and are often used as the basis (or bases, rather) for kitbashes by CNW fans.

I would have to agree, after thinking about it, and also searching for the Rico Station(which is no longer there) I believe the old Revell station definitely has a more eastern flavor to it, I would think possibly CNW, or Rock Island, C & O, or something along those lines.

As far as the Atlas Station, I already have created a virtual model of that station. And it is similar only in stature to the Revell station. The Atlas Station has more conventional styled dormers, and the roof line is such that it matches up perfectly to the platfroms available separately. And yes I am sure that AHM did a knock-off of the Revell station, because I think at one time I had both.

Again thanks for all the replies…[:)]

That depot - with the big octagon dormer in the middle - isn’t a Rico station. The HO one is made by IHC, I had the Lionel version on my old O layout in the eighties. Many O narrow-gaugers use the Lionel station on their layouts still today. Here is an address - don’t know why the photo is so bad on the Walthers site…

You can also go to

http://www.ihc-hobby.com

and do a search on “Rico Station” to get a better pic.

If you go to toy train heavens web site and go to ho buildings, you can see both the atlas station and the rico(ihc) staion, also there is the knock off revell station by ihc. mike h.

As thoroughly covered in other posts on this thread, the AHM (IHC) Rico station is a model of something on one of the Colorado narrow gauges.

Your comment that the AHM and/or Atlas station were based on, or at least inspired by, C&NW prototypes is interesting. I hadn’t heard that before. Does anybody out there have any more specific info about what was the prototype of each of those — if in fact there is one?

I well remember when that Revell station was introduced — way back in my early days of modeling, 1959 or so!!! Those Revell plastic kits of that era were the first nice plastic railroad structures to hit the market, and gave us for the first time a good alternative to Bachmann Plasticville.

The Atlas plastic station (and their other structure kits) first showed up in the mid 60s; and even today I think this one is the nicest plastic station available. I have wondered for years if it was based on any particular prototype. By the way, are you guys out there aware that today it is available in three different scales?

You can see the whole line of Revell kits on Tony Cook’s site. If you scroll down you’ll see that it was called Small Town Station. He mentions that it was later sold by AHM, but I’m convinced that my box said Atlas. Revell Building Kits

IHC does sell a 2 dormer version of it now. They also have the Rico station, but in their picture it’s missing the rooftop ornamentation that gave it a Spanish feel. I think my Rico station came in an AHM 3-pack, with a courthouse and fire department. I remember that the base was badly warped.

This one, right?

Yeah, it’s seen better days. I’d still fix it up and put it on my layout, if I can find room for it. As they say, it’s a classic.

I took the photos on an air hockey table, in case you’re wondering.

yeah, that’s the one, right there. And those are exactly what I needed, picture wise as well. Thanks a bunch. I will try to post a pic or 2 when I finish the project![:D]

As promised previously, here are some pics of the virtual model I created from the photos & information many of you kindly posted. Thanks again to all of you, I enjoyed this model. And I have included credits in the description file listing each of you by your forum name!
