Revell Germany HO Locomotive static kits?

Has anyone had any experience with these kits? I read two or three build reviews online but there weren’t much info there regarding details or inaccuracies.

By the way I am still almost too green to Model RR. Had a set of Bachmann santa fe diesel with freight cars when I was really young. Somehow after a trip to the New York Model Railroad Society, which was found located 2 blocks away from my place, the interest came back up and I got a bunch of Bachmann Spectrum steam locomotives in the past half month after reading some good suggestions here in this forum. I had been a scale modeler for quite a while, started young, so naturally I want to repaint, decal, and weather these babies. therefore I thought the MUCH CHEAPER revell kits would give me a good start on it. Unless anyone can give any other suggestions, such as maybe… don’t repaint them!!!

I just finished the NYC Hudson model and I’m going to start the Big Boy kit soon. Not a lot of detail on them, but if you like building plastic models, their fun. I hope to use mine as static displays on my layout. For the $$$, I’m glad I bought mine.

I have the Hudson, easy to build and looks good. Good for a static model.

I assume these are the same models offered many years ago by Monogram, then maybe another firm. I have several of them, and they are great for background scenery or other such uses. Keep in mind they are of the snap together type, and details are fairly coarse; the drive gear is all moulded together and the wheels aren’t made to turn. They can be snapped together in no time. I can remember paying around $4 for the Hudson when it first came out, the last time I saw one it was around $25.00.

Yes they are the same, I think Bowser made a wheel kit for the Big Boy tender.

Yes, they do make it:

Scroll down, it’s item #150681 Electrification Kit for Monogram & Con-Cor 14-Wheel Tender. I think the price is $ 24.95 or thereabouts.

Revell Germany also has kits for German prototype locos. They are highly detailed and much more challenging to assemble than the US prototype former Monogram models.

Interesting. Fundy brought up a question here that I would like to take maybe a little further back. I remember building a static plastic kit back in the 50’s. Seems as if it was an O scale model though. Jog any older memories??? Also if the old gears upstairs are still in mesh, it was a 4-4-0.

Weary Erie,
If I remember correctly, there was an O scale plastic model of the SP’s C. P. Huntington. Only problem is it’s a 4-2-0.

My son had a snap togather steam engine. It is now with my train items as static display or to sit out on a siding. It would have to have highlights painted to look decent. Phil.

awsome. Thanks for the opinions guys. I think I am gonna try that BR03 german pre-WWII kit. I will keep an update on how it’s going. for 15 bucks it’s better sacrifice than those spectrums.
