Here are a couple of projects I have underway. Thoughts?


This is one of my -9’s.


This is one of my -8’s.

I also have another -9 and an SD40-2 I plan on doing.

those are cool. i’ve seen ex UP locs with a line painted through the “Union Pacific” on the long hood and relettered for a leasing company.

Is that first one for the UNIFIC railroad!? Pretty cool name if it was intentional. It could even be an adjective: The C&NW is a unific railroad.

Actually I’m modeling my layout as though the merger went the other way around. These are C&NW patches of a UP unit. I’m going to be applying the decals later this week. I have to finish the -8 long hood and nose patches though.

After working further on these here’s what I’ve come up with:

Here’s what I’m thinking for these two so far: 2013 for the -9 and 1683 for the -8.

I had an HO Kato SD90/43MAC painted for UP and I was planning on patching, I ended up trading it to a friend for an HO Kato ATSF 9-44CW

What were you planning on patching it to?

According Roger Grant Book “Northwestern” in late 1890’s CNW was considering in buying UP, but

couldn’t come up with the funds.

Southern Pacific locomotives would have a CNW patch instead of a UP patch.[:o)]

Yes I knew that. It was a joke. A rather poor one too, I guess since no one got it.

Looks great Dan! I love the thought of CNW taking over UP[:D]. BTW, for a little variety, you might try repainting a different roof panel, instead of repainting the same spot on every engine.

The next projects should address that. Actually I have three that are in the works as of now. One is an SD70 ACe (not as a heritage unit), one of the DDA40X’s likely with Zito yellow, and the third will probably be another C44-9W.
