Review of Lionel's Atomic Reactor

The LOTS website has posted a good review of the new Lionel Atomic Reactor Accessory. It is at the following web location:

http://www.lots-trains.org/articles/reviews/index.html

The article includes a lot of detailed photos of the new accessory and details its operation. The article does not specify the size of the accessory (It may be in the Lionel catalog), but it looks as though you would need a lot of real estate to located it on your layout.

The accessory is designed to work with a plain gondola to load the fuel pellets and unload the waste fuel, but I would imagine the flashing lights from the past radioactive waste cars would add nicely to the light effects of the accessory.

The review notes that the SC-1 controller cannot handle the amperage for this accessory and that an SC-2 is required.

I also noticed that the LCCA’s website states that their February 2001 issue of “The Lion Roars” will also have a detailed review of this accessory. I will post the impressions from that review when I receive my copy.

Hi Tim,

I read the review. The accessory sounds cool. But from what I read, it sounds like Lionel needs to make a special gondola with an imbeded channel for the balls so the arm can load them without having to move the car. I will have to post an email to them and see what happens.
