Review of the MTH K4 part 2

Agreed Mike![:D]

Actually the article is not a review. It is a commentary on the review in Model Railroader and comments on seeing a model run on MTH’s convention display layout. Therefore I would put more trust in Dave Hikel’s review, which is (as is the MR review) a hands on test.

BTW, I am not a partician of MTH. The only MTH that I own are some “O” cars converted to 2-rail. MTH currently offers no locomotives in any scale that interest me.

Based on your comments, it sounds like DCS doesn’t work any differently that DCC. I use a toggle switch on my turntable to handle polarity change. Given your experience with using a toggle to handle the reverse loop, I’d be curious if one of Tony’s Train Exchange PS-ARs could auto reverse a block with DCS, which I use on my staging yard tracks, which are reverse loops.

I would buy it except for 3 things, Its not N scale, Its PRR(I have nothing against PRR, just no need for a PRR steamer) and the biggest one, its MTH.

BTW:

No flames intended, but in looking at a certain writing pattern…imho, our friend MTHRules is back and has been for a little while now! He’s been using a new forum name.

Anyway, Welcome back. Good to see that you’re posting more intelligently.

10-4.

Antonio,

If your implying I’m “MTH Rules”… FORGET IT!
I like the MTH products I own in O scale very much, and so far I’m favorably impressed by the K4, but I have NEVER liked grape KoolAid. In fact I get guff from one of my O scale friends for continuing to by Lionel’s products (some of their newer rolling stock has beautifully accurate brass details). No, if you look I joined before the forum change, and I was reading this forum a couple months before I joined.

Jerry,

It also seems to me Tony’s equipment should work with DCS. The only thing I can think of that might cause a problem is that DCS in HO runs on DC only. This shouldn’t cause a proplem with any of the relay type reversing units, but I’ve never had one of Tony’s apart to see who the circuit really works. If the DC can run Tony’s ciruit it should be fine.

FYI
I’m a fulltime layout builder in the Seattle area. I work in all scales, but about 70% of my business is in O (this seems to be where the money is these days). My first train sets were a Lionel O27 freight set and the 1977 Blue Comet set. When I was ten my older brother became interested in HO and we built our first layout in our parents garage. When I was in high school I became a member of an operating fire engine museum. Several members of this museum were also avid fans of O gauge trains. I was attracted back to that side of the hobby by the beautiful new locomotives that ran better than any thing my brother or I owned in HO (mostly blue box Athearn and Altas). I graduated college in 1999 with a BS in automotive engineering. Shortly after 9/11 I was layed off from work. In April of 2000 MTH come out with DCS, which I had on order before getting layed off. I had never been a command control fan, but I saw Mike Wolf demonstrate a pre-production version at Eastside Trains in Kirkland, WA, and was very impressed. Since I had this new system and still hadn’t found

Uh, no…its not you. Relax. I study writing patterns and yours doesn’t match his.

My apologies guys, it was inappropriate of me to post the above. This new forum won’t let me delete it, so please just ignore it.

Peace out.

No harm, no foul.[:D]
