Revised 9x8 plan

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/yoshisbucket/9x8001.jpg

That is the revised plan from your suggestions. I colored balck the track and highlighted areas where things have changed. Here’s what I have done:

  1. “double ended” staging, in a sense. Accross from Idlywilde Farms, a track branches out into staging which connects to the other line into staging. This way trains enter staging going forwards, yet space isn’t lost. Once in staging, trains could back up the sidings.

  2. Extended Passing siding. It now reaches up to the station. I added a midway crossover. I also flipped the right tailo. Now, my question is which way should the right tail and mid crossover face?

  3. At rollieman’s suggestion, I changed the set up between Idyllwilde Farms and Import-Domestic Auto to flow better. This has also lengthened the auto shop siding.

Any answers to what I asked in the Extended Passing siding section and/or further suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

If running clockwise and coming into staging the two tracks bottom right aren’t long enough to clear the staging track turnouts before the train backs in.

Could you pull those two tracks around to Erickson Grains and mayby connect there with a turnout.

EDIT I guess you don’t need to use those two tracks and just pull round to the main again before backing into staging.

Ken.

yah, those two tracks were mainly for engine storage, not for arriving trains to pull into. I was thinking about pulling those tracks around though to Erickson, I like the idea. I’llk see if it’ll work. Thanks

the upper left corner still looks kind of empty , but i think that’s your intention and if you fill it up with buildings it will look very realistic . nice work on the mods

Looks like you have a good working plan now… I wouldn’t fill it up with anymore track, it’ll take too much away from being able to fit in your city… Now go build it!!

Is your staging going to work as an interchange too? otherwise you could hide a litte siding maybe under your city to fill the role, otherwise it should keep you busy! danny

thanks everybody.
danny, nope, its just regular staging for the main

theres a set of unneeded switches…

I was thinking the midway crossover might help a bit. Are they unneeded?

Yoshi, is that Idyllwilde Farms building in front of the siding that serves it? I was just thinking, that might hide the reefers you plan to park there. Here is how I would have done it:

Notice how the siding track is in front of the building, so that now you can see [and photograph] the reefer cars that are spotted at Idyllwilde. (Sorry about the large gray area to the right, I had to do that to ‘fool’ the software into thinking this is a ‘landscape’ oriented image and not a ‘portrait’…)

Just my .02…

Thanks Ken. Actually, I designed the reefers to be in the back. This was because Idyllwilde Farms front is what makes it really unique. The back is nothing special. If the back was fgacing into the control pit and the front facing the back drop, there’d be nothing special. Also, since this isn’t an industry persay, it has a large parking lot in front etc. Its really a large fresh food store., so it can’t really be surrounded by tracks. Thanks though.

I like the plan Yoshi!

its going to be great MRR. watching you guys plan and critique(sp?) the plans has made me understand i dont want mine from a book o’ plans. even though i cant run the track plan software . i did try a little drawing on graph paper today with some success.

good work on that plan yoshi
