For a while now I have been working on revising a previously posted track plan that I did. The inspiration for this came from an article that MR ran in June 2002 about Progressive Rail.It’s an HO switching layout. I used XTrak Cad to design it and ran trains on it. It seems to fill my needs but may need a little tweeking. The building placement is not finalized yet. I also would like to know if using an SW7 and some older Athearn 40’ cars would I have any problems using code 83 track? Thanks Bob
Hi Bob,
I think your Athearn cars should be ok. There is a standard - RP25 I think - for wheel flanges, and there is some older rolling stock which has flanges which are too big and can’t run on code 83, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard that Athearn was a problem. If you do end up with trouble, wheels can be replaced with RP25 wheels.
