Looking through some old train magizines (yes I can’t wait even a month for the next issue), I came across a section in Model Railroader called “Student fare .” Although no longer in MRR, this section allowed younger modelers to ask questions, share tips, and even share photos! Surely many of the younger model railroader’s benefited from this. Thinking about this, what a great way to aid the next generation of our hobby! With a whole lot of kids into O-gauge and S-scale, CTT would be the perfect canadate to revive this section. So how about Roger Carp, and others at Classic Toy Trains, I am sure you could make this a very successful column.
There’s a place for “Student Fare” to showcase the younger modeler’s work. Young modelers have to deal with the challenges of lack of money and space. But the biggest challenge facing a young hobbyist is that the standards for a “publishable” layout heve become too high for the average modeler, let alone someone who is starting out.
There’s also a need to showcase the “nontraditional” modeler: women, minorities, the very young and very old, and those who live in unusual places.
