Rewiring Williams Can Motors for slow speed

I recently rewired my Williams switch engine so that the 2 can motors are wired in series instead of parallel. I found that the low speed operation was excellent. I also noticed I am drawing more current using this wiring.
I was wondering if any one knows if this is a safe modification or could I damage the pc boards.
Thanks for the help.

I do this all the time and have not had a problem. All my Williams are wired in series except for a GG1 which did not run right this way. I slowed this down by installing some blocking diodes. You should be drawing less current, not more.

I assumed that it was drawing more current because the lights int he cab were alot brighter.

It cost me $65, but I have been very happy with operation of my Williams brass ā€œJā€ since I had a flywheel motor and new motor coupling installed. I plan to eventually do the same with the 1988 Williams brass Ps-4s and Mikados.
Wiring in series is a very workable solution for Williams twin-motor diesels but motor replacement with flywheel units is my answer for steamers.

I have a Williams brass pacific that needs a new motor and I would like to add a flywheel. What was your source for the new motor for your J?

Thanks for the help.
