Here’s a five minute movie where I attempt to put you in the engine as the driver. This is my first attempt at a video online, so let’s hope it works. Please click the below link.
I’ve bought a small color video camera and receiver from an ad in MR last year. I can operate my layout from watching the TV monitor. These cams are really cool.
That’s neat !! I wonder how long it will be until we see layouts designed specifically for video - that is, designed to be seen only thru a videocam?? I would imagine a layout built around the walls of a basement for example, maybe 2’ - 3’ wide, around all four walls. The track would basically run down the middle (more or less) of the shelf with scenery and backdrops on both sides of the track, so that from the traincam you would only see scenery and backdrop. It would be like in a valley - or a trough, if you want to think of it that way.
You would operate it with replica locomotive controls, with a monitor where the front cab window would be. You could also have “railfan” cams at points around the layout so you could watch the train go by.
BTW since you wouldn’t be viewing it from the side like a convential layout, you could make it at floor level - a little easier to work on that way.
