In mid-1977 I rode the Georgia RR from Atlanta to Augusta. It was a great trip! I rode in one of the rarest passenger cars, being a former Western Railway of Alabama 10/6 sleeping car! I still have the ticket, which cost be less than $6.00.
My only regret is that I didn’t spend a week in Georgia, so that I could ride all of the Georgia mixed trains!
I have a couple of photos of the train on my webpage. Has anybody got a good photo of the said sleeping car?

Could you post a link to your webpage? I’d love to see the photos! That sounds like an incredible trip. You have to admire the railroad for not joining Amtrak.
It sure was a fine train ride! Here is my webpage, which has Australian and North American photos.

I hope that the link works OK.
I rode a few train services in the US, Canada and Mexico during the 1970’s that are now gone, along with a couple that still operate.

Great site, John! Very excellent nostalgic pictures! You should be proud to have made all of these journeys and seen what you have. Some of us, like myself, were born too late to experience many of these things and can only imagine what it would have been like.
The Georgia Railroad was under no special obligations to operate its passenger service. It enjoyed a favorable tax break from the State of Georgia based on the terms of its original charter and had won several court cases over this matter. Nevertheless, since the railroad felt that running a mixed train with a streamlined coach or Jim Crow combine was only marginally more expensive than a straight freight train with a caboose, it kept running the mixed trains to avoid giving the state an excuse for re-opening the tax issue.
