Ring that Bell?

Hi Guys,

I purchased a BLI AC6000 recently will all the Bells & Whistles (well air horns anyway [:p]) and I was curious to know what is the purpose of the Bell?

Is it used for different purposes on different companies?

Happy Holiday to you all!

The bell is generally rung when the locomotive is in transit through a yard, or when it is approaching a station where passengers are handled. It is a safety mechanism to minimize unfortunate episodes of ground personnel losing to the train.

The bell is sound when an engine/train starts moving as a warning. You will notice trains use the bell as they pass a passenger platform, or a crowd close to the tracks.

Thanks for that information!

Unfortunately I can’t say I have noticed the bell on platforms as I am in Austalia and here it just a case of blowing the horn if they think it is necessary.

Plannning on having a first hand look soon!

Thanks a lot!
