Now all we need is for them to restored CB&Q 5629 and it be perfect.
Unusual in that the state is the regulator for the loco’s boiler. Normally a locomotive boiler falls under FRA jurisdiction. Is the CO RR museum an “insular” railroad and therefore not under the FRA?
You are correct about C.R.R.M. being an insular. I don’t think that CB&Q 5629 will ever get the chance for restoration. They are doing some good things at C.R.R.M. including restoring a UP dining car for dinner & wine events and talks of building a shed to store some of the older wooden cars for display rotation.
This locomotive has been a true pleasure to both learn from and help restore. It will be a terrific edition to our operating roster!
The locomotive the 491 was rebuilt from was class C-41 2-8-0 #1026, not a 2-8-2 as reported here.
