What color is used on the D&RGW’s that used the Orange color on the road name? Looking for the color used on the ends of the engine.
True-Color Paint has the colors listed by road name.

I’m beginning to realize that aging is not for wimps.
Hello All,
Uh…“Orange”…
No really- -the True-Color Paint Chart lists three colors for the D&RGW:
- “Aspen Gold” (#45)
- “Orange” (#46)
- “Freight Car Red” (#216)
When I visited the George Town Loop maintenance house at Silver Plume I was told that the colors used are Rust-Oleum “Gloss Black” and, as he put it, “Plain old ‘Safety Orange’.”
It seems that safety or generic “orange” is the answer.
There are decal kits available for the end stripes of D&RGW diesels.
Check out Microscale Decals.
Under the “Quick Links” pull-down I found the “Denver & Rio Grande West (DRGW)” option.
From there I further refined the search to “Sort By: Code Descending (HO first)” and “View: All”.
This brought up 25 sets of Denver & Rio Grande West HO scale decals. These sets include both the “Orange” and “Aspen Gold” color schemes.
Hope this helps.
Thanks!
