Rio Grande Green Steam

Okay, first of all, you’d think I’d KNOW this–[:I]–but I’m having a lot of trouble finding out exactly when the D&RGW stopped painting some of their steam locomotive boilers green.

I know that some of their 1400 2-10-2, 1600 4-8-2, and 3300, 3400 and 3600 articulateds sported green boilers, and possibly even other series of locomotives also, but I can’t find out when the road stopped painting the boilers green. Was it during WWII or sometime before?

If anyone out there can help me, I’d sure appreciate it. I just acquired a neat little Key brass 3400 ‘baby’ 2-8-8-2, and I think she’d look cute as the Devil with a green boiler, but I model the WWII era and I just wondered if it would be ‘correct’?

Thanks for any information you can give me.

Thanks for the link, but trying to join any Yahoo group for me is like chasing my tail and ending up biting myself in the posterior. That site is impossible to negotiate! [%-)]

I’ll keep trying.
