My wife and I attended their 2011 photographer’s event right after going to Durango for Railfest and had a great time. Scenery on the east end of their line near LaVeta is very good, with more open vistas for photography. This isn’t a complaint about the Durango & Silverton, but whereas I didn’t use more than a short zoom the entire two days at D&S (rode back-to-back photo trains during Railfest), I was able to break out the long zoom and 300mm on the RGS. And staff treated us to a very enjoyable two days, waiting on us hand and foot, even cooking breakfast on the train (in one of their two domes) when many of us were unable to get breakfast before the train departed because of the lack of dining establishment open early in the morning. Interesting time, wish we were going again this year.
