I thought all the Rio Grande locomotives were taken down. Does anyone know how many are left in the UP roster?

What do you mean by “taken down”? I would guess that most of the SD50s, GP40-2s, and many of the SD40T-2s are still with UP. There is only one left with its DRGW number.

Indeed, there are still a fair number of “patch” jobs running around. The picture you have posted was taken in LaSalle, CO. I was just in LaSalle yesterday, and there are two patched DRGW units, 1 SSW patch and 1 SP patch hanging around there.

I think that the two GP60s are still around on the UP.
