RIP: Clifton "Gene" Hull (1920-2011)

FTA"…N_ORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Clifton “Gene” Hull, who wrote several stories for TRAINS about his two-year employment on Missouri Pacific, died Friday. He was 91 years old._

Hull was born June 8, 1920, in North Little Rock. He joined Missouri Pacific in 1940 as a brakeman. He subsequently served in World War II, then returned to the railroad, serving a total of two years in train service. After leaving MoPac, he hired on as a draftsman and outdoor recreational planner with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

He wrote the book “Shortline Railroads of Arkansas,” and was a charter member of the Arkansas Railroad Club. His TRAINS credits include seven bylines dating to 1978. Another entry will appear in the February 2012 issue’s “In My Own Words” column about his honeymoon to Colorado in 1944 on MoPac’s Colorado Eagle…"
