RIP R. J. Corman

If someone could activate this link, that’d be great.

This is very sad news from a North American wide RR perspective.

Mr. Corman was clearly a man who knew how to make things happen. I think he set a good example for all non-Class-1 operators to take sensible risks, and go out there and just do it. For a long time people thought railroads were a dying industry, and people like Mr. Corman helped prove they weren’t. I hope R.J. Corman has a good succession plan in place. Given the length of time he knew he was ill, and given the way things seem to work there, I suspect they do.

RIP Mr. Corman, and job well done.

Interesting “Fortune” Magazine article from a few years ago about Corman’s corporate succession plans:

Essentially the company will now be owned by a private trust that benefits Mr. Corman’s heirs as well a major cancer research hospital. Seems like kind of an unusual arrangement, hopefully it allows the company to remain competitive.
