Not being able to actually see which motor it is I’m guessing it is one of the old 3 pole ball bearing motors and all I can say there is “good luck”!!!
But, if it is, here’s a suggestion, the AHM U25C uses that motor and yu could pick one of those up cheap off of EBAY, steal the motor out of it for your steamer, remove all of the gears in the U25C and resell it on EBAy as a “dummy” engine and probably get most of your investment back.
Maybe not a solution but it’s “suggestion”…

I think the Casey Jones uses a special long-shaft motor, so finding a replacement may be more difficult than for most other Rivarossi steam engines. If you keep an eye out at places like eBay, you may be able to find an original replacement (I think I’ve seen them come up before). I know there’s also one person on eBay who sells remotor kits for Rivarossi and others using high quality flat can motors like the ones found in CD drives, but I haven’t seen any of his auctions for a little while. If you can find him, he might have something for the Casey Jones.
it 's a long shaft motor with the gear that’s on it about half the shaft’s length . i’ve been looking on e bay also. also it is a 5 pole can motor.i was thinking abouit taking it apart and try cleaning it.
I had the same problem, but had found a second such model at a train show. I had altered mine to represent Clinchfield #99 (it is Clinchfield #99 that is on display at the Casey Jones home/museum in Jackson, TN). I sent mine to a professional model re-motoring business that has been in business a long time, asking them to install a more modern motor if they knew what would fit. They ended up just putting in the motor from that “spare” that I had found. So apparently matching up something to the vertical mount of this motor is difficult and/or unusual.
Good luck. Let us know if you come across an alternative good solution.

I had two of these that I planned to use for my WRRy. After many headaches of trying to figure out how to make them run better (altering the frame for a small can motor, swapping the frame from something else, or even scratching a frame) I just gave up on trying to improve them. They’re fantastic looking lokies but not only are they rocket ships, they’re drivers love to come out of quarter. If you’re interested I still have the motors from both of them, send me a message if you’re interested.
