Class S

&

Bachmann
Steam locomotive
Santa Fe
2-10-4

MANY THANKS

Go to eBay.com and do a search (or multiple searches).

That should give you an idea of what these are selling (bidding?) for.

Darrell, quiet…for now

I say about $50.00 to $70.00 a piece.

The Rivarossi might be worth something. If the Bachmann isn’t a Spectrum line and just a plain Bachmann, it’s worthless. Now, I said worthless…as in price. I didn’t say it might not be a good locomotive.

Actually, On30’s got it completely backwards. The Rivarossi 2-8-4 has been around forever, and a brand-new, upgraded version with a can motor (MUCH better than the pancake motor version you have) can be had for $60 (used, about $25-$50, if you can find a sucker…er, buyer).

But the Bachmann 2-10-4 was only produced for a few short years, and is actually something of a desirable engine (for those who NEED a 2-10-4 and are willing to remotor it). They go on Ebay for the $50-$100 range.

I stand corrected. You have my humble apology.

If it’s the older AHM one with the motor in the cab, it’s worth from $50 to $60, if it’s in good condition. If it’s a newer one with the better, hidden motor and better drive and it’s in good condition than it’s worth from $60 to over $100.

If it’s in good condition and runs well than you could get as much as $70 for it. Most of these prices come from what I’ve seen on eBay. You could probably get the most from eBay, because people get real caught up in bidding wars on “Rare” items.

No apology needed. Your logic was sound; even old Rivarossi engines are light years ahead of non-Spectrum Bachmann stuff. It’s just that most Riv engines have been superceded by newer models, and that one Bachmann engine happens to be the ONLY desirable non-Spectrum model out there!

Sounds like someone found a real “treasure” no matter how you look at it.
