My Rivarossi 0-4T (from the seventies) is running but gets tired.
It tends to overheating, which results in smoke escaping from the motor. I would like te remotor it for DCC-use, but do not know which motor to chose.
Perhaps anyone on the forum can give me a hint?

The motor is higher than it is long, if that is what you mean.
The axis of the motor is in the length-direction of the loco, though.
It is the small 2 axle loco with the 4 axle tender that is sloped at the back.
Measure the motor, then go to http://www.nwsl.com/ and get a new one. You can also call them directly and they will help you out.
This is the direct link for their can motors

if the motor is already smoking, its already shorting in some windings and heating more and shorting more. New motor time now.
While your at it at NWSL, get the regear for it, slow that baby down.
