Rivarossi Challenger question

Have any of you had a problem with the Rivarossi Challeger wheels being loose on the axles? I actually sold mine recently and I had never had the problem, but the person who bought it said that two sets of the drive wheels came loose on the axles when he was testing it.

If anyone has had this issue can you give some suggestions for fixing it?

Did he try to lubricate it with regular oil? Was he trying to regauge the wheels? As for a fix if they aren’t too loose a good cleaning and a drop of CA might work.

re-gauging the drive wheels?..on a Rivarossi?..not sure about that, but mine hudson had a plastic gear that had to be replaced…other than that, no problems here

If you can’t get the parts aftermarket, or the real parts anywhere, a skilled machinist working with small items might be able to make a slot and key configuration inboard of the drivers. Then, if the wheels are metal, a bit of solder for good measure.

I have two of them, one black the other two tone grey. They have been reliable runners for over 20 years.

Other than a couple of used and abused Rivarossis (a little Super glue and a remotoring for the other)I bought off of ebay and the LHS all my other Rivs run like champs: articulateds, Berkshires, Mikado and 2-10-2s. Outside of Bachmann Spectrum steam engines they are the majority of the steamers in my fleet.
