Rivarossi diesel motor change

Does anyone know how to get the metal bracket off the motor? I want to change the motor..

Rivarossi locos are areal PIA to remoter. The bracket is an integral part of the motor casing and is crimped to it from the inside of the casing. You’ll also need the worm gear and that should be pulled with a gear puller (North West Shortline). Most modern motors have a smaller shaft (1.5-2.0 mm), so you’ll need a bushing to make the worm fit. The best place to get advice and some conversion parts (like the bushings) is North West Shortline. NWSL may even have a nylon/delrin replacement worm gear which would quiet the drive considerably. Send him an email, he’s very knowledgable and helpful. You may have to rig up a new bracket out of brass if you go this route.

If I remember correctly, when I worked at Dunham Studios, one of the guys that did the loco maintenance, pulled the worm gear, opened up the rear of the Riv motor and pulled the armature/drive shaft out, then epoxied in a Sgami round motor that fit just inside the Riv motor casing and then remounted the worm with NWSL bushings. thus keeping the original bracket. You need a motor with a long drive shaft to compensate for the thickness of the bracket and motor casing.

If the motor is bad, you might be better off just getting a replacement from Rivarossi (Hornby) and save yourself a lot of heartache.
