Rivarossi f7 Baltic Milwaukee Trouble

I have a mid 1990’s Streamlined Baltic by Rivarossi, it is very underpowered. I bought it new when it came out. Do they make a better motor for this engine and if they do, how do I get one?

Rivorossi for many years have had a checkered reputaiton on quality. Rivorissi never got around to redoing a motor for that that will be a drop in replacement for the F-7. However Northwest Shortline has a quite a range of motors that can with a minimum of modification be made to go in place of the stock rivorossi motor. Give them a call and they will be able most likely to get you what you need. Also check to make sure the locomotive is balanced on its dirvers. If a locomotives is off balance. most of the driving weight is forced onto one or two driving wheels effectivly cutting its trative effort in half. To check and see if its in balance, place the center driving wheel on a 1/2in. X 1/2 in square piece of wood. If it is balance it should remain fairly well level balancing on its center driver. If it is off balance it will tip iether forward or backwards (more likely backwards) To remdy, add weight hiddin the the engine until the locomotive balances on the piece of wood as described. Then if pulling power is still not as desired extra weight can then be added. Just make sure it is still in balance when you do.

I would check the balancing first as it may prove a satisfactory runner if it is off once you correct it.

Thanks James I will give it a try!![:D]

Good. Tell me how it turns out.

Underpowered, as in the wheels won’t turn with a load? Does this one have the motor in the boiler or in the cab?
