How does this locomotive perform? Is it worth the price? I’ll be buying one in the next month. I’d also like to know which one (844 or 840) has lighter graphite paint on the smoke and fire box. Thanks in advance![:)]

mine runs very good, pulls thirty cars on flat track, will creep to couple to cars ,am very satified with it,great engine!!
Cnsidering what’s out there I have to say it’s one of the best deals in town. I am truly happy with it as it is very powerful and will pull 60 cars up a considerable grade without hesitating.
I’ll warn you a head of time if you have derailment of one of the cars don’t expect the FEF to stall. She’ll keep on going and rip things up until she’s off the tracks or you’ve ripped the wiring from the tender. [:(][V][][censored][sigh][#oops]
actually the #844 has the darker graphite than the #840
Are you sure?
I put 844 and 840 next to eachother underneath the same light source and as
I look IMHO the 844 is lighter as the 840 but it is a small difference between them, I remember forum member Aggrojones make some comments on the color when they first came out, maybe he could shed a light on this color issue, or is it possible that some FEF3’s are mixed up in the paintshop and have reverse color schemes?
Here you go. [X-)]

Sorry AGGRO I new I read it, but forgot it was YOUR topic !
edit your name in rightaway!
So is 844 lighter or is 840 lighter???
I looked at the two FEF-3 I had and compared those, 844 is lighter.
but it is a small difference, the light graphite is still dark,
Maybe I can put the spectrum 4-8-2 UP # 7009 next to it, I believe you have that one too, and than compare colors if you want,
let me now, you could go over Aggro’s topic as well I think the color scheme in reality is different than as in the advertisement.
LUPO
So are we all agreed that 844 is lighter than 840?
[tup] yep as far as I can see !
I think I’ll write a letter to www.internettrains.com and tell them their pictures are incorrect.
Jonathon, you may have a point there, the color light graphite in the picture is much lighter as it is compared with my locomotive !
If I look at all the pictures on the net they are VERY confusing ! isn’t there a LHS near you where you can take a look at the color and decide wich color you like most !
WOW I wish in model railroading they start to use a similar worldwide color reference as the Pantone Matching System we use in graphic design.where all colors are represented by a number.
Anyone else around who has both or has seen both to give an opinion about what is going on about this color issue?
Hmmmm, I just gave www.internethobbies.com a call, and they said that 840 is lighter than 844. They had pictured for 840, 8444. The guy looked on the Walthers site, and sure enough, they had the wrong picture. He said he was very grateful I called, he says it’s model railroaders like me that tell them small stuff like that is wrong. He said for me to give all my buddies on trains.com modelrailroader forum his thanks. HOW COOL IS THAT!?[^][^][^][:)][:)][:D][;)][swg][tup][tup][wow][yeah]
Try to post a picture of the 840 and 844 together maybe we can see the difference
I am getting confused overhere !
Here we go. I could not find a picture of 840, but I did find 8444, which is the picture of 840 on www.internethobbies.com
this should be 840,
up coming weekend I’ll make pictures from the 840 and 844 I have and try to post them or send them by mail, it is late at night overhere, and the flash on my digicam is awfull!
So there are two versions of 844!!!? Now I’m really confused!!!
