I just picked up a newer Rivarossi NYC off E-bay. Do some of these loco have the engine in the tender? Is this good or bad?
I have two others that have the engine and smoke. I really like the way they operate.

All of Rivarossi’s Hudsons have the motor in the engine itself (older ones are in the cab, newer ones are in the boiler). Steam engines with tender mounted motors can be very good runners, but this setup often causes the tender to lean when it’s running because of the motor’s torque.
Thank You I was concerned that I bought something like the old TYCO’s with the engine in the tender. I’ve had a few of those and didn’t like their performance.
