I know this subject has probably been addressed many times in this forum, but how the heck do you replace the traction tires on a newer model Rivarossi Challenger? (There are two traction tires, one on each side of the rear axle of the rear drivers) Mine are worn out and I don’t want to go taking things apart and messing up the engine gear timing.[?]
Greetings,
I would give this place a shot.

Unfortunately, you must remove the drive rods – there’s no other way; however, just removing the drive rods, installing the traction tire, and then re-attaching the drive rods should not affect the gearing or timing at all as long as the drive rods are still in place on the other side of the locomotive and you don’t try to force the wheels to turn while replacing the tire.
One of mine fell off so I cut it free.
Still running on one and have NOT incurred an operating problem.
You can also get replacements from Walthers, the Riv distributor.
