Rivarossi U25C better than old AHM ?

They have to be better now. So how are they ? Any out of box problems ? Do they have huge wheel flanges ?

Thinking of pulling the trigger on a pair.

Like the difference of night and day! Current models have can motors, RP25 wheels, seperately applied grabs and other details. Like mosts diesels from the 70s, they were cude by todays standards.

The new U25C and U28C models done by Hornby/Rivarossi are great little units. Their detail and control are state of the art. The only down side is that Hornby has announced they aren’t interesting in making any more US prototype models, so these will be “orphans” as far as repair parts, etc. On the good news, they were available at really decent prices recently.

I’ve got three of their later U28C’s–DCC/sound.

They are pretty near perfection.

I would have bought their U25C’s, but the ones I wanted (NP and CB&Q) had incorrect paint colors. This was corrected for the U28C’s.

I am disappointed they bailed.

Incidentally, the early ('60’s) Rivarossi was a phase II version, while the recent one was a IIIb version. I was hoping that they would make a new version of the former. Which doesn’t look likely, now. I’ve got an old NP one that is a dummy with small-flanged wheels that I stick in the mix. If you mentally squint your eyes, it looks OK.

Thank you for your insight fellow’s.

Add me to the list of happy engine owners!

Have all 3; one DCC sound, the other DCC only. I wish my other engines ran that smooth…

I ran an L&N Rivarossi U30C at one of my club shows, the unit was responsive and pulled well.

It is one of the club owned engines.
