Yesterday while I was at George’s Trains in Markham I picked up a few of the River Point Mini’s Ford F-Series Super Duty Pickups in HO scale. Are these things new? Yesterday was the first time I’ve seen them. Well after opening them up I must say I’m very impressed with them. They even have a spare tire mounted under the box and a Class IV trailer hitch receiver under the bumper. The only thing I’m disappointed with is they didn’t add the wiring harness for the trailer, lol. Turns out I grabbed a High Rail pickup in white as well and didn’t know it until I opened it up. Its a little plainer looking, it doesn’t have the nice paint and chrome wheels like the others but its a High Rail, its not suppose to be nice right. It fits perfectly on my track and now I wish I picked up a couple more of them. All I have to do is add a CN or CP decal on the doors. If you see them at your local hobby shop then check them out. I bet you can’t just buy one, lol. [bow]
Dave,
If they look anything like their locomotives, they ought to be very nice. Thanks for the heads up.
Tom
Slight correction it’s River Point , at :
Well, that would make more sense. I thought it kinda odd that Division Point would be making trucks but wanted to take Dave’s word on it. Boy, Dave! Last time I trust you for reliable info! [:o)]
Tom
Opps, your right Jerry. I fixed my heading. I’ll post some pics if anybody wants to see them.
Please do , I haven’t seen them except on their website. They appear to be very nice models.
OK, I’ll be right back.
The blue truck is an Atlas, most people have seen those so I put it just to compare the two.
Not the best pictures, my wife took my camera to work today for her Christmas party so I’m stuck with her old one.
While they have been discussed for a while (months) on websites like www.1-87****vehicles.org and such, so far I have not found the plain P/Us (no chrome) without hy-rail wheels around, even though the plain grills are the most common around these parts (NY), particularly for the general commercial usage (e.g. light construction, landscaping, municipal services, etc) the F350s are put to. The website does show plain P/U, no hy-rail (too bad they aren’t selling chassis only - well, I guess I can pry the bed off), but I haven’t found any yet.
Also, I see they have photos of practically every type of Ford production category - if they do follow through it will be a bigger splash than Trident made in the 1980s (OK, who here, who’s not a newbie, with a modern-era HO layout doesn’t have at least one Trident Chevy/GMC P/U and Van (I have at least 3 vans, 2 P/Us).
If only they had come around a few years before Ricko, Model Power (& Malibu), Atlas’s new products, and such releases in the past few years, they would have been worshipped as demi-gods…
Don’t forget the Suburban, I have a couple of them as well. When ever I see a Trident GM pickup at a show I buy it.
Yeah, I can’t wait to get my hands on some of them.
Not to stray from the River Point trucks but I was at the hobby shop on Wednesday and ran across some new 4 door Jeeps from Atlas. They actually called something else but they pere presented by Atlas. Very nice and very detailed. They were going for around $15, which seems to be the going rate for nice cars. I didn’t get any due to a strick budget. The wife would have flipped.
Speaking of Atlas, that blue F-150 that you are photographing is made by Atlas not Athearn. I’m sure that’s is what you meant.
MAN, I got to stay away from the beer today. I meant the blue truck is a Atlas. I wish those Jeeps were 2 door versions, I would have picked up some of them.
Besides the 1-87 website, Truck Stop Models is a good place for new vehicle introductions, and they feature the new jeeps, new Ford P/Us, etc. - Front Page.
Hmm, even they have a plain grill F350s…why are my LHS black out zones for those…
I’ve seen those. The guy from www.custommowtrucks.com makes some of those hyrail pickups already painted in railroads’ MOW colors. He also sells them on eBay.
Thanks TA for the photos , they do seem to look pretty good. As mentioned above I do order a lot of stuff from Truckstopmodels , I just always like to hear how people like them before I order.
The RPS Fords are excellent; I have all three types (F-250 in red and yellow with black grille, F-350 high-rail in orange). River Point Station spent over a year developing them and they are among the finest HO models on the market. The tooling is just exquisite and stands up well against the best German models.
The Jeep you saw is the 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. It is made by Masterpiece Automotive Replicas and distributed by Atlas.
