Rix uncoupling tool

Any pros and cons that anyone would like to share about this tool would be appreicated. I am thinking of purchasing one.Do they really work?..Thanks

I had one quite a while ago but as I remember, it worked fairly well. It is a two pronged wand with a magnet on each side. It works similar to the underneath magnetlic uncouplers. When the couplers are slacked, the magnets will pull the uncoupling pins sideways uncoupling the cars. I’ve since gotten a Kadee non-magentic uncoupling tool and that works well also.

I have several. They work well, provided the “air hoses” on the couplers are complete. It also took a couple tries to find the “sweet spot” where they uncouple the best. Overall, I prefer them to the skewers I used before.

Yes, But… I hate to be a wet blanket, however they are a neat idea. One must be aware that: 1. they don’t work with passenger car diaphragms in the way, and 2. cabeese with metal end rails and ladders have a fond attraction to this device. I will stick with skewers, or wire devices to reach under the diphragms and open the hoses. John Colley, Port Townsend, WA

I have several around the layout and hang them on cup hooks below the fascia. You just have to drill a hole in the handle. John Timm

Now that IS a clever idea–wish I’d thought of it; could work with skewers and such too! Thanks John.

Thank you one and all for your comments. It is always nice when people take the time to assist others in making this hobby what it is. Enjoy your layout and the great season of spring.
