I recently took posession of one of RMT’s RDC Buddys. I really like the car but I noticed that it seems to run a bit slower than other can motor based engines I have.
Are RMT’s products geared a bit differently so that they run a bit slower?
The Beeps are definetly geared to run slow, but Buddys should be fast compared to the beep from what I have heard when and if I get a buddy will let you know. I am saving up for a B&O BEEP and some of their new hoppers, of course I also want a BEEF and set of PEEPS and a caboose as well but one thing at a time.[#ditto]
I guess my experience differs from that of some others. I have a great mant BEEPs and two BUDDYs. I’ve found that the BUDDYs run a whole lot faster than any of my BEEPs (I prefer the slower running speeds of the BEEPs). I was able to get the BUDDYs to run slower by switching to other types/makes/models of transformers, but that wasn’t really a satisfactory solution. As a result, my two BUDDYs are now back in their boxes. I like them a lot (flashing lights on the roof, etc.), but just don’t like what I consider to be too-fast speeds on my small layout.
I have no problems, speedwise, with my BEEPs, aide from one I have that stops and changes direction when it tries to negotiate one of the five Atlas switches on my layout. It goes through that switch just fine if I run it with the short hood forward, but not with the long hood forward. I’m simply gong to reverse the shell on that unit, or use the chassis from another BEEP, since I prefer long hood forward operation and it appears to work well that way.
