PATRICK.
Depends on a couple of things, first are your talking about pick-up trucks or tractor trailers on paved roads ? Most roads in the US are anywhere from 18 to 22 feet in width. Rural dirt roads can be any number of widths depending on where in the US your modeling.
Four lane super highways are 25’ shoulder to tree-line, 18’ to 22’ roadway…to 50’ grass or concrete median, 18’ to 22’ roadway and then 25’ of shoulder to treeline.
Hope this helps…Patrick

I
I am a Civil Engineer in Oklahoma and I occasionally design roadway sections. Typically the minimum roadway width is 26’ (2-13’ Lanes face of curb to centerline.) Local roads are typcially multiples of 15’ outside lanes and 13’ inside lanes. I do not design highways but I believe that they are the same as local roads. I believe that shoulders are typically 12’ wide. Different ares even within the same city will have different needs and they will lead to differeing paving sections.
GOOD EVENING.

Well take a break grab a pint of beer and STOP YELLING AT US.
That is to say, turn your “Caps Lock” off. Typing in ALL CAPS is considered as yelling.
Here in Georgia, and in most of the U.S., 2 lane roads are usually 25’ from white stripe to white stripe, with a 12" allowance for 2 yellow stripes in the middle, giving lane widths of 12 feet. 4 lane and Interstate highways generally use the same lane widths.
