i dont recall the year, the r.r. or the location (maybe from the 70s, maybe the L.I.R.R.) a passenger was arrested for causing a disturbance during a ride… it happened while the train was stalled, for whatever reason, and had lasted for several hours… when the rider was brought to court, the charge given was “theft of service”… he had interfered with the train’s operation and delayed the ride… he pleaded innocent… he said the train had been sitting still for hours, driving passengers crazy… he said there had been no theft of service, because noone was being served while the train sat, delaying passengers from their destinations… case dismissed…

the kingston trio had one where the (husband, father) got stuck on a subway in boston… he kept missing his stop to get off, so his wife and children would wave at him, while standing on the platform as he rode past… i guess it was bostons MTA…

I think the D&RGW’s full slogan was, “Through the Rockies, Not Around Them.”

The BIG Little Railroad! The Jersey Central.

Did I miss the page with “Standard Railroad of the World”? I’d have thought someone would list that almost immediately.

Was it Lucius Beebe or E.M. Frimbo who proposed the competitive slogan for D&RGW to use against Rocky Mountain Scareways – “Through the mountains, not into them”?

Though there were probably many Interurban and Trolley lines that had this moniker… I learned it associated with CRANDIC…
