Roadways

What colors are good for making asphalt roads? Weathering and such.

Newly laid asphalt is near black, as it ages it fades to progressively ligher gray. Don’t forget that patches are darker and cracks are filled with tar which ramains black. A good trick i saw somewhere was to represent the crack tarings by drawing in crack lines with a pilot pen or other black ink rolling ball pen. Also roads are crowned to shed water. Older roads are thiner. Early on roads were simply graded and oiled. This practice dates from the mid nineteenth century. Hope you find this useful.
