I just finished an interesting book by (Prof?) Robert G Athearn on the post-construction Union Pacific titled “Union Pacific Country.” He has also published a history of the Rio Grand.

Because of the conincidence of names and subjects, I’m wondering if this author is related to the Athearn company so often discussed here?

Can’t say for sure that there is no relation. Athearn is a fairly uncommon name. The Athearn who is associated with the manufacturing company was Irv(ing). He has since passed on. The company was sold to Horizon Hobbies a couple years ago.
